It’s human to crave the instant gratification of social platforms – the immediate validation that comes from likes and shares on your posts.
But, hey, whose house are you building?
What happens if Facebook changes its algorithm?
Or TikTok is banned?
Or a sketchy billionaire buys Twitter?
Where will you land? Will you be able to pivot in an instant? Shake off the loss and move on? Or will you lose everything?
By all means, amplify what you have to say by standing on the shoulders of giants. But build your own house on the internet first. Nurture it.
If the community you’re building relies on a gatekeeper, it’s not your community. It belongs to the gatekeeper.
